Shall be excluded of selection : products containing phenols, active chlorines or chlorides, because of their corroding power. Shall also be excluded the aldehydes, because of their capacity to reinforce prions under the action ofvapour, their allergenic power and their capacity to corrode
.
How to decontaminate :
• Treat separately from chrome-plated instruments,
• decontamination shall be realized as soon as the instrument has stopped serving,
• Hardness of the water shall be included between 4° TH and 8° TH. Hard water inhibits the antimicrobial action and shall lead to limesont disposits on material when using some kinds of detergents,
• The chlorine content of dilution water has to be lower than 20 mgr/L, to avoid from every risk of corrosion of the surgical insturmentation,
• The mineral elements (iron, copper, manganese,…) content of water shall be as low as possible, on pain to see those elements be fixed on the instrumentation and give to it, with time, a bronze or rusty-coloured sheen aspect,
• Scrupulously respect the concentration that shalln't be increased nor diminuted on pain to compromise efficiency or to increase the unwanted effects,
• Do never mix products altogether, most of all do never add detergents
• Bath temperature shall be of 20°C, except for proteolytic enzymes.
If the smell of product is diffusing itself, it means the water temperature is too high, and th active ingredients volatilize to the detriment of efficiency.
Intrument's immersion shall be total, for the decontamination to get extended to the whole instrument's surface, as well as to avoid the stack effect.
Respect tremping periods. A too short tremping period would compromise the decontamining action, and a too long tremping with some corrosive products would lead to an inavoidable damaging to the instruments. As a rule, whether product is chosen, immersion period shall never exceed 30 minutes, and scrupulously respect the recommended concentration.
